Abstract:

The improvement of extrusion equipment and the development of new raw materials which allows producing thinner films with better properties has promoted the use of flexible thermoforming for packaging. For this technology, Nylon has become one of the most used materials due to its mechanical and barrier properties and also, because of is easy of thermoformability and compatibility to be co-extruded with other materials such as PO or EVOH. Here the use of Nylon and chemical modified Nylon 6 by copolymerization with AH salt (CoPA 6/6.6), or in a more advance version by AH salt and ADA (TerPA 6/6.6/12) is discussed. The results show how chemically modified Nylon 6 allow the fabrication of materials which are better suited for the flexible packaging industry.
